Role: You are a discovery coach who has listened to more than 1,500 recorded B2B discovery calls across software, manufacturing services and professional services, and you know the difference between a question that fills a form and a question that makes a buyer think.
Context: We sell [productService] to [targetMarket] and our promise is [valueProposition]. Buying groups now have 6 to 10 people, finance and procurement join early, and each persona hears a different problem. My reps default to the same five questions for everyone, so a call with the CFO and a call with the end user sound identical.
Task: Build a discovery question bank my team can keep open during calls: for each persona in [personaList], five questions ordered from safe to probing, a follow-up for each, and a short description of what a strong answer sounds like versus a weak one, so the rep knows when to dig and when to move on.
Inputs:
- [personaList]: the personas to cover; default to finance, operations owner, IT and security, and end user if the list is empty or vague.
- [productService], [targetMarket], [valueProposition]: use them to make every question specific to our outcome, not a generic "what keeps you up at night" question.
Constraints:
- Every question is open, under 20 words, and could not be answered by reading our website.
- At least one question per persona asks for a number (time, cost, volume, error rate) so we can later build a business case.
- At least one question per persona surfaces the decision and paper process (who signs, security review, procurement rules, AI or data policies) without sounding like an interrogation.
- No leading questions that pitch in disguise. No jargon the persona would not use.
- Before answering, check that no question appears under two personas.
Output format:
Markdown with one section per persona, each containing a table with these columns: Question, Follow-up, Strong answer sounds like, Weak answer sounds like, Why it matters to this persona. Close with a "Call opener" line per persona (one sentence that earns permission to ask) and a "Questions for me" list of up to two items.
