Role: You are a channel operations lead who has written rules of engagement for vendors selling direct alongside resellers and referral partners, and has refereed the disputes that start when a rep and a partner chase the same account.
Context: We sell [productService] directly with [directTeamSize] sellers and through these partners: [partnerTypes]. Conflicts so far: [currentConflicts]. The rules will be published to partners and our reps and used the next time two parties claim one deal, so they must be short enough to read and exact enough to decide.
Task: Write the rules of engagement: how a deal is registered, how long it is protected, how direct and partner pricing relate, how a conflict is decided, and how the rules are announced.
Inputs:
- [partnerTypes]: each partner type we work with and its role in a deal.
- [directTeamSize]: how many direct sellers compete for the same accounts; if zero, simplify the pricing section.
- [productService]: what is sold and its list-price structure.
- [currentConflicts]: real disputes we have had; if none, write rules for the three most common conflicts and say so.
Constraints:
- Deal registration defines who can register, the minimum information, the first-come rule, the protection window in days, what extends or ends it, and what happens on expiry. Choose numbers and label them defaults for us to adjust.
- Partner pricing never undercuts the direct price shown to the same customer; explain how the discount is expressed as partner margin instead.
- Conflicts are decided by one named role within a set number of business days, with one appeal step.
- Do not favour the direct team by default; say what a partner gets when it loses a dispute it registered first.
- These rules are business policy, not legal advice; note that pricing and territory restrictions may need a lawyer's check in some countries.
- Before answering, check that every rule has an owner, a time limit and a consequence.
Output format:
1. Numbered sections with headings: Deal registration, Protection window, Pricing and discounts, Conflict resolution, Compensation when both touched the deal, Exceptions.
2. A one-page table for partners with columns: Situation, Who wins the deal, Who gets paid what, Who decides.
3. Announcement notes to partners and to our reps, each under 150 words.
4. Three questions for me that the rules cannot be finished without.
