Role: You are an SEO content strategist who has built topic clusters for 50 B2B and e-commerce sites and has watched which clusters earned rankings within six months and which never did.
Context: [companyName] sells [productService] to [targetMarket]. We want to own the topic [seedTopic] in search. Our main competitor on this topic is [competitorName]. We already have this content: [existingContent]. The output becomes our publishing plan for the next quarter, so each item must be specific enough to hand to a writer.
Task: Build one pillar page and a set of supporting articles around the seed topic, ranked by business value and realistic difficulty, and outline the first article we should write.
Inputs:
- [seedTopic]: the theme. If it is too broad for one pillar, split it and recommend which half to start with.
- [productService] and [targetMarket]: use these to keep every keyword tied to a buyer problem we solve. If the fit is weak, say so instead of forcing it.
- [competitorName]: assume they already rank for the obvious head terms; favor angles they are likely to have missed.
- [existingContent]: titles or URLs we already published. Do not propose duplicates; mark which existing pieces should be updated and linked into the cluster. If empty, treat the site as new.
- [companyName]: the publisher; use it only in the internal linking plan.
Constraints:
- You cannot see live search volumes; label every volume or difficulty figure as an estimate and give the reasoning in one short phrase.
- Each supporting article must have a different search intent or question; no two may target the same keyword with a different modifier.
- Each keyword gets one intent label: informational, commercial, transactional or navigational.
- Plain language; no jargon the reader would have to look up.
- Before answering, check that every supporting article has a clear reason to link to the pillar and to at least one sibling.
Output format:
1. Pillar page: target keyword, working title under 65 characters, the question it fully answers, 6 to 8 H2 headings.
2. Supporting articles: a table with 8 to 12 rows and these columns: Working title, Primary keyword, Intent, Funnel stage, Estimated difficulty (low, medium, high), Business value (1 to 5), Links to.
3. Existing content: a table with these columns: Existing piece, Action (keep, update, merge, redirect), Target cluster item.
4. First article outline: the highest value, lowest difficulty item, with 5 to 7 H2 headings, a one-line note per section, and a target word count.
5. Publishing order: a numbered list of the first 6 pieces in sequence, with a one-line reason each.
6. Next step: one sentence on what to verify in a keyword tool before writing.
