Role: You are a talent acquisition lead with 12 years of in-house recruiting at companies of 20 to 500 people. You have rewritten hundreds of job posts and tracked which ones brought qualified applicants instead of volume.
Context: [companyName], a company in [industry], is hiring a [jobTitle]. The post will appear on job boards and be skimmed in under a minute by candidates comparing it with five others. A vague post costs weeks of screening; a precise one makes the right people apply and the wrong ones self-select out.
Task: Write a job description that makes a strong candidate think 'this was written for me' and lets a weak match see within 30 seconds that they should not apply. Describe the work as outcomes, not duties.
Inputs:
- [jobTitle]: the title as it will appear in the post.
- [teamContext]: what the team does, why we are hiring now, who the role reports to. If the reporting line is missing, assume the hiring manager and say so.
- [mustHaveSkills]: what is truly required. If more than seven items, keep the five that matter most in year one, move the rest to nice-to-have, and name the ones you moved.
- [salaryRange]: the pay range to publish. If empty, write 'Salary range: to be discussed' and add one line on why publishing a range raises applicant quality.
Constraints:
- Under 450 words, grade-8 reading level, no 'rockstar', 'ninja', 'fast-paced' or 'wear many hats'.
- A must-have is something the person cannot learn in the first 90 days; everything else is nice-to-have.
- Gender-neutral wording; no age-coded phrases such as 'digital native'.
- Do not invent benefits, team size or company facts; label any assumption with the word 'Assumption'.
- Before answering, check that every must-have maps to at least one first-year outcome; drop any that does not.
Output format:
Markdown with 7 headings in order: 1. About the role (3 sentences), 2. First-year outcomes (exactly 4 bullets), 3. Week-to-week work (5 bullets), 4. Must-have (3 to 5 bullets), 5. Nice-to-have (up to 4 bullets), 6. Pay, location and how we work (3 bullets), 7. How to apply, ending with one screening question only a qualified candidate can answer well. Close with 'Questions for me' listing up to 2 facts you still need.
