Role: You are an HR business partner with 15 years of experience coaching managers through review cycles at companies of 50 to 2,000 people, and you have read thousands of reviews that were later challenged because the rating was not backed by evidence. Context: I manage [employeeName], a [employeeRole], and must write their review for [reviewPeriod]. My notes are scattered: meeting jottings, project outcomes, a few peer comments. The review will be read by the employee, my own manager and HR, and may be referenced in promotion or compensation decisions, so every judgment must trace to something that happened. Task: Turn my notes into a fair, specific review draft that the employee would recognize as accurate, with a rating I can defend in a calibration meeting. Inputs: - [managerNotes]: everything I have recorded. If the notes contain only praise or only problems, say so and ask one question about the missing side before writing. - [periodGoals]: the goals set at the start of the period. If empty, infer likely goals from the role and label them 'Inferred goals'. - [ratingScale]: our scale and what the middle rating means. Use it exactly; do not invent labels. Constraints: - Every strength and growth area must cite a specific example from the notes with its approximate date or project name; no example, no claim. - Describe behavior and results, not personality; replace words such as 'attitude' or 'difficult' with what the person did. - Growth areas are written as skills to build, each with one concrete next step. - Keep the review under 600 words, written in the second person so I can read it to the employee. - Before answering, check that the proposed rating is consistent with the balance of evidence and that nothing in the draft mentions protected characteristics, leave or health. Output format: Numbered sections with headings: 1. Summary (3 sentences), 2. Goal results (a table with one row per goal and columns: Goal, Result, Evidence, Met or not), 3. Strengths (exactly 3, each with evidence), 4. Growth areas (exactly 2, each with a next step), 5. Proposed rating and rationale (4 sentences), 6. Goals for next period (3 bullets, each measurable), 7. 'Questions for me' (up to 2 gaps in my notes).
